Barcelona Food Finds: The Best Meal You’ll Ever Eat in a Closet

Ever thought you’d want to eat in a closet? Well, this Barcelona food find is hiding some of the best eats in the city…so get your hanger ready.

Now, there’s a few reasons why Clóset Restaurante is the perfect name for this hidden foodie gem.

1) It hides all of the locals. Everyone knows that the Barcelona food scene is jam packed with tourists galore. Which is all well and good, if you wanna eat at Hard Rock Café. Now, I had little time to spend in this beautiful city, so I made it my mission to find the best tourist-free de-yummy-licious spot. And hella, I did. It’s not likely you will find a single tourist in this spot. Why? Well, they’ll pass it. Just like these guys did…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

2) It’s the size of your (walk-in) closet. There is not much extra room for the eat-there-once and pay-the-cuenta tourist. This place is jam packed full of locals who know about the place. When I was there, there was one family who took up the entire restaurant…and me. Now, it was a big family, granted. But one. Luckily, I don’t take up much space (before the meal, at least…)OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

3) There are hangers on the wall! I’m not gonna say this is by coincidence. But, it sure adds a nice touch to the whole “I’m eating food in a closet” feel.and they're even fun to hang off of!

4.) It’s a fusion of foods, much like the clothes in your closet. You might have a defined style. Let’s say you call your style “bohemian-chic.” However, I guarantee you, you have at least one misfit item of clothing back from your confused “alternative” era. And maybe a pair of ’90’s overalls? This closet is the same deal. The main “style” is Spanish cuisine, complete with to-die-for paella and classic Spanish style tapas. However, there is a fusion of Italian, Greek, and everything Mediterranean. After all, it’s those quirky misfit pieces in your closet that make it you. Wouldn’t you agree?

Here’s what to order:

For the biggest Spanish meal of the day, “media del dia” (or lunch, as we call it) you get a full kick-butt three course meal, for 10-13€ per person (or 16€ is the paella option). The menu changes every day, as the one chef likes to keep things fresh. He goes to the market every morning, sees what fresh new ingredients they’ve got, and builds the menu del dia off that. Here’s what I got.

First dish: The eggplant parmesan with fresh mozzarella and homemade tomato sauce. Now, you wouldn’t think to get eggplant parm in Spain, wouldya’? Think again. I kid you not, the best eggplant parm I’ve EVER had. No filler breadcrumbs, just the good stuff. And this is coming from a girl who hails from New Jersey, a.k.a the land of Italian restaurants. You’ve seen Jersey shore, right?

Second dish: A ginormous lamb and pumpkin ravioli pastry. Smothered in red pepper sauce. The pastry was flaky and light, just perfect to soak up the sauce. And the pumpkin lamb inside? DROOL.

Dessert: The chocolate cake. Now, normally I don’t got for just plain ol’ chocolate cake. Unless it’s like this.
