Hello world, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! For the first Madrid #FridayFinds of 2016, I’d like to share with you guys a very special spot I dug up in the deep depths of underground Madrid. My love for underground jazz clubs all started last year in Barcelona, righttttt here. So, I went on a mission to find one in my darling Madrid. And find one, I did.
It might be 2016, but blues music is just purely timeless. So in the new year, let’s throw it back old school HERE. Attttttt…
La Coquette Blues Bar.
The minute you walk through the skinny little doors and down the stairs, you’ll forget what year it is. This hidden, underground little gem is marked by dim lighting, brick walls and a graffiti covered stage. It’s for only the true music lovers, as you’ll find the majority of the packed room filled with Spanish blues and jazz-junkies. But one thing is fo’ sho: whether you know your soul music or not, anybody and everybody will have a killer time here.
Here are the highlights: Huge Spanish dudes with big beards and bada$$ tats serving cervezas at the bar, a rowdy crowd jammin’ with the jam band, and live performances by local blues artists that are sure to make your hands clap, fingers snap, and booty groove.
FIND IT: Calle de las Hileras, 14, 28013 (Metro Opera or Sol)
THINGS TO KNOW: Every Sunday after 8 PM is jam session Sunday. Bring yo’ singing voice and mojo. Here’s the daily sched:

Try Cafe Central next to Plaza Santa Ana. Probably one of the best in Spain
Noted!! Can’t wait to check it out. Thank you 🙂
Hi Casie,
Glad to read on La Coquette Blues. No doubt I will try ot out.
Cafe Central as Cristian mentioned is great. May be ypu know already, but Clamores, in Alburquerque 14, close to Plaza de Olavide is very good too. For instance, in early December Chano Domínguez, the great piano player was featured there.
All the best for 2016.
Alfonso
