#FridayFinds: Madrid’s Spanish Wine and Cheese Heaven

TGI#FridayFinds everybody! For this week’s episode of #FridayFinds, I’m dropping in to bring to you my absolute favorite place in Madrid to devour delicioso Spanish wines and cheeses. Drummmm roll please….

It’s called Casa Gonzalez, in “Barrio de las Letras” neighborhood. Untitled design (53)

The best part about this little local gem? Not only can you order a vino and plate of queso to enjoy at the restaurant, but it’s a gourmet deli as well! Why is this such great news for you? Well, think about this! You order an assorted plate of cheese and a glass of vino tinto de la casa. One full plate of Manchego and a glass of wine later, you’ve fallen head over heels in looooove. (With the vino and cheese, that is.) So, you want MORE. MORE MORE MORE. Well my friends, you are in luck! Any wine or cheese you order, you can buy to bring home from the in-house gourmet deli.

Uhh... I'll take one these, one of these, one of those...and oh! That too, and...

My advice? Before you head here for some tasty tapas, clean out your kitchen’s cheese and wine shelf. Yo’ gonna need some more room 😉

The Vibe

Close your eyes and imagine: A Spanish delicatessen circa 1950; walls covered with bottles of wine, jars of Spanish olives, pepper tapenades, various patés, and glass cases full of CHEESE. Now, throw in some cute little tables in the front window, and a secret room behind the deli where the restaurant hides. OK…now OPEN! You are in Casa Gonzalez. On any Saturday afternoon, the place is sure to be bustling with everything from Spaniards doing their gourmet grocery shopping, to groups of friends sharing tapas and vino in the back room. Untitled design (54)

And now, for your viewing pleasure, I give you a picture of cheese. Why? ‘Cause AWC’s very scientific (and accurate) studies show that cheese viewings increase peoples happiness level by 60%.Untitled design (55)

So, are you happier now? CHEESE 😀

In conclusion, if you want a sampling of Spain’s best local products, a super-duper cosy ambience to drink a glass of vino with amigos, and a nice hefty goody bag to take home for tomorrow (…and the next day, and the next day) then Casa Gonzalez is your queso place-o!

Find it:

Casa Gonzalez, Calle León, 12

What’s your favorite spot to have a nice glass of wine and cheese? Where do your fave local Spanish products come from? What’s your favo type of Spanish queso? Ready, set…MancheGO!
